I was in Japan when the publisher sent out surveys to all missionaries and I'm guessing some Japanese pastors too. They obviously listened well and designed this Bible accordingly. At first furigana was only going to be partially put in if at all, but they must have gotten lots of appeals for all furigana and thankfully went with that. (Furigana is a small version of hiragana which is the phonetic Japanese syllabary with a character for each syllable sound) This allows not only foreigners to easily read 'kanji' (Chinese characters) they don't know but also when Japanese come across an odd character they're not sure of, they don't have to feel embarrassed. This is especially important with nonChristians as they may not know quite a few characters found in the Bible. So hats off to the publishers. If they could ever bring the price down a bit, my hat would come further off (^_^) = :-)

This is the only bilingual full Bible in existence, and it was only introduced to the market in Japan a couple of years ago. It is thicker than most American duo-version Bibles (about twice as thick), but that is how most Japanese Bibles come. Hardback is no problem using a Bible case. The format is standard parallel Bible format. Like it or not, it is the only one out there that includes the whole Bible, but fortunately, it is a very nice Bible...very readable, and good quality paper.

An absolutely great bible. The best feature in my opinion is that it has furigana above the kanji so you can still read it even if you don't know all the kanji yet. It's definitely worth getting.

This is a wonderful resource, using the two Bibles I used to use to preach messages in Japanese, the NIV and the Shinkaiyaku. It is easy to use and is presented in a parallel format that is easy to read.
