I agree with this person. The chinese scholars all can not understand the union very well, but seem to like the living or new chinese verson. If you are getting it for a new believer or unbeliever go with a new translation. I would really like to see this verson parallel with english.

Analysis of Various Translations of the Chinese Bible For those of us confused about the best Mandarin Bibles to use among mainland Chinese students and scholars, here are some guidelines to help. Since the "Union" version is an older one, it is used in virtually all Chinese churches worldwide, although some are beginning to accept the New Chinese Version alongside the Union Version, a trend that will undoubtedly grow. Non-Christian Chinese students and scholars and younger Christians from the mainland, currently studying in North American or other universities, find the Union version archaic and can not read it in traditional script. They prefer a newer translation like this one here written in the "simplified script." (((My note This is what I found at Troy University!! They couldn't read Union))) Info was take from: © 2007 InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA ® Member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students
