ENCOURAGING BETTER BIBLE READING

The Books of the Bible project encourages better Bible reading, particularly by emphasizing the reading of whole books. The result is an inviting and clean visual presentation of the Bible, in Today's New International Version (TNIV), that can be understood and enjoyed more easily. The Books of the Bible differs from the format of most current Bibles in significant ways:

  • Chapter and verse numbers are removed from the text
    (A chapter and verse range is given at the bottom of each page)
  • Each book's natural literary breaks are shown instead
  • There are no notes, cross references, or section headings in the text
  • Text is presented in one column rather than two or more
  • Books that have historically been divided into parts are restored
  • Books are presented in an order that gives readers more help in understanding

I teach N. T. Literature, and have always wondered what it would be like to actually see the literature through all the debris that tends to collect about the text. Well, you did it. For years exegetes and Bible teachers have been telling people to read the context of each Bible statement, and yet we give people Bibles that make this simple and necessary step difficult and not at all intuitive. When every verse has its own paragraph every verse is represented as an unconnected thought, like the book of Proverbs. I am very excited about this new format, and I hope more literal translations (sorry, TNIV!) issue similar editions. mlwj

I absolutely love this Bible. I am about to start teaching a How to Study the Bible class at my church and will use this as the primary text. It will help us to "unlearn" some bad habits and also I hope make us fall more in love with God and His Word. Thank you for creating this awesome Bible!!

I think this is a GREAT format! I find that I can hardly put the book down once I start reading. I read Genesis in one sitting the day I got it, which I normally stop after only a few chapters. PLEASE release this in a hardcover!!! (With maybe a slight size reduction)

You are not going to believe this! I was walking and talking with a friend on our lunch break today and was explaining to him the history of verses and chapters in the bible and how I wished there were a bible without all of that because it would be so much better for reading. Well I got home this afternoon and found my new copy of IBS' fall catalog. I didn't even read the cover but started looking at all the neat bibles. I put it down shortly as I had things to do. Later, on our way out to dinner, I asked my wife to drive (Good thing!) so I could read my new catalog. As I leafed, I found the ad page for "The Books of The Bible" and when what it was saying sank in,I couldn't believe it! I got so excited that I almost couldn't contain myself. I mean, what are the odds that I would have just been anguishing over my desire for a chapter-FREE, verse-FREE, commentary-FREE, heading-FREE and cross-reference-FREE bible, and then only a few hours later, God says,"SUPRISE! Look what I made for you." God is SO AWESOME!!!!! Thank you guys for letting God inspire you to do great things and for going to such great lengths to bring God's word more deeply into people's lives. Indebtedly yours, Chuck Funderburk
