ENCOURAGING BETTER BIBLE READING

The Books of the Bible project encourages better Bible reading, particularly by emphasizing the reading of whole books. The result is an inviting and clean visual presentation of the Bible, in Today's New International Version (TNIV), that can be understood and enjoyed more easily. The Books of the Bible differs from the format of most current Bibles in significant ways:

  • Chapter and verse numbers are removed from the text
    (A chapter and verse range is given at the bottom of each page)
  • Each book's natural literary breaks are shown instead
  • There are no notes, cross references, or section headings in the text
  • Text is presented in one column rather than two or more
  • Books that have historically been divided into parts are restored
  • Books are presented in an order that gives readers more help in understanding

I just recently bought this Bible and I am very pleased with it. The main thing, though it may seem unimportant, is simply how everything is laid out. You have breaks showing you where there is a period of time that has gone on or that that what you read was one thought, and now the next section is another thought. Also, the TNIV translation is wonderful and, after researching it, I found that it really does seem to be one of the most accurate translations, however, it is also understandable and is a good balance between word-for-word and thought-for-thought translations. The books of the Bible have been rearranged according to when they were actually written and what kind of literary work they are. (There are also no chapter and verse markings, though the people that put this Bible together do show you how much you read in the bottom-right hand corner by chapter and verse standards.) I would definitely recommend this Bible to anyone struggling with getting into one that is arranged normally and also to anyone reading the Bible for the first time so they can read it like a book and won’t be lost with awkward chapter breaks and other annoyances. (The Bible is a book made up of books after all…)

It's great to read the historical accounts like a narrative with natural breaks. I think this version will definitely help people read large sections of scripture.

Spectacular! The layout from Genesis in The First Testament to Revelation in the New Testament is so clear and refreshing. The arrangement of the books is very logical. Definitely reads as the authors intended. Excellent way to share the message! Reads like a story without distractions. Thank you!
