Kingdom Come. Kingdom Go.
How Jesus of Nazareth made the blind see, the lame walk, the deaf hear, the dead alive, proclaimed good news to the poor and forgave the sins of many, and how his disciples continued his mission throughout the known world as written by Luke the Physician.
Kingdom Come
The first volume, the book of Luke, starts by introducing the main themes of the whole work, telling the story of Jesus' early life. The remainder of the book is split into three sections:
-
The first describes Jesus' ministry in Galilee, the northern section of Israel. Jesus performed miracles here which point to his identity as the Messiah.
-
The second section follows Jesus' long journey to Jerusalem. During this time, Jesus taught and answered questions about what it means to follow him.
-
The third section describes how Jesus gave his life in Jerusalem and then rose from the dead, signifying that the kingdom of God was the new, present reality.
Kingdom Go
The second volume, the book of Acts, has six parts, each one describing a new phase in the expansion of the kingdom of God outward from Jerusalem. The divisions between these sections are marked by variations of the phrase
AND THE WORD OF GOD GREW AND MULTIPLIED
.
-
The first phase describes the establishment of the church in Jerusalem and its expansion to include Greek-speaking Jews.
-
In the second, the movement expands into the rest of Palestine.
-
The third part emphasizes the expansion of the church to include Gentiles alongside the Jews.
-
The fourth shows the church sending messengers west into the heavily populated Roman province of Asia.
-
In the fifth phase messengers enter Europe.
-
The final section concludes as messengers reach the capital of Rome and into the highest levels of society. The announcement of God's reign was thus proclaimed to all nations.
