Analysis of Various Translations of the Chinese Bible For those of us confused about the best Mandarin Bibles to use among mainland Chinese students and scholars, here are some guidelines to help. Since the "Union" version is an older one, it is used in virtually all Chinese churches worldwide, although some are beginning to accept the New Chinese Version alongside the Union Version, a trend that will undoubtedly grow. Non-Christian Chinese students and scholars and younger Christians from the mainland, currently studying in North American or other universities, find the Union version archaic and can not read it in traditional script. They prefer a newer translation like the Living Chinese Bible written in the "simplified script." (((My note This is what I found at Troy University!! They couldn't read Union))) Remainder cut/pasted from: InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA ® Member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students

I take these to Chinese restaurants when I eat out. Many Chinese restaurants are staffed by recent immigrants who don't know how to get Chinese reading material, let alone bilingual material. To offer your waitress, hostess, or cashier a free copy of one of these will usually make their day. They will love you for it. Take several with you, because as soon as one waitress shows it to the others, they will all want one. I give these out, not sell them. It is worth the $3.50 just to see the look on their faces when they realize this is bilingual, and it can help them learn English. And the fact that it is the everlasting Gospel is icing on the cake. There's no wrong reason to read the scriptures. It is best to actually eat there and offer this as their customer, instead of just popping in for the sole purpose of a Bible placement. This edition is SIMPLIFIED Script, which is the writing style used in MAINLAND CHINA.
